Goals for the Chiropractor’s Success

Goals for the Chiropractor’s Success

goalsWe are arriving at the time of year when last year is mostly in the rear view mirror and the New Year is on the horizon.  It is the time of year when successful chiropractors start writing their goals.  Hopefully you are someone who writes your goals and reads them often, if so, you are also the ones achieving your goals and setting the pace for success in the chiropractic profession.

In today’s blog, I want to talk about not just writing goals, but formulating goals that have purpose and inspire you to get your butt going and accomplish them.  Some will say they write their goals, but in reality they set down for a few minutes at the beginning of the year and scratch down some things on paper which in reality is not a goal list at all, but a wish list.  They hope that by somehow writing these “wishes” on paper they will somehow magically come to fruition.  And these are the same people who are now at the end of yet another disappointing year wondering why others are successful and they are the polar opposite.

To truly have a “goal list” one must take writing them seriously, spend time in thought and contemplation on what they really want, and go thru revisions to what I call “purify” their goals.   So I am saying don’t wait until Jan 1st (or worse even later) to start on your goals.  Why not have them in place, purified, and solidified before the end of this year?  Take the time between now and the New year to start thinking about what you want to accomplish next year, start writing down everything that comes to mind, you will edit them later.  Once your have a large list of both your personal goals and your professional chiropractic goals, then start the editing process.  Similar to a paper we used to have to write in school, you start with a rough draft and go thru the process until you come down to your final draft.  It is okay to put down things on the paper and then remove them!  I have coached so many that are afraid to write something down…..one year I remember that I started with 275 items on my list and it ended up at 15 items that made the final cut, and even some of the 15 were tweaked before they made the cut.  I recommend spending some quiet time each day to review, edit, and refine your list until you have your “final draft”.

We will cover more in the next blog on goals, but this will get you started…hopefully sooner than later.  Getting your goals written now will give you a head start on success in 2010.  Chiropractors deserve to be successful, but we have to utilize the principles of success to reach our ultimate potential.

Remember, refine, refine, refine.  Just like gold, goals get more pure with refining.  The purer your goals are the more motivating they will be and thus will be more likely to spur you on the reach them.  Go ahead, why not make 2010 your best year ever, it starts right NOW!
