Chiropractors Wanted

Chiropractors Wanted

I am currently doing a project of collecting chiropractic research and studies. It is amazing to me how much is really out there when we start looking for it. The cry for years has been, “we need more research”. Well my cry is we need more chiropractors practicing true chiropractic so we can do the research. And we need to do chiropractic research, not try to fit chiropractic science into the medical science box. If we do, then all our research will point to exactly what they want….chiropractic is well proven for musculoskeletal conditions. We have to think outside the box, at least outside “their” box. We for so long have been trying to prove ourselves to them. Why? Acceptance? Seems to me the more we are “accepted” the more problems the profession has, or is it just me? The sooner we realize that we are a separate and distinct healing the art, the better off we will be.
My opinion is that we don’t have the technology to truly research chiropractic. Our principle is above and beyond what science is capable of testing right now, so we try to prove our science in their model. Not a good idea.
The question is, who is going to step up, when are we going to step up? If we keep practicing something that kind of looks like chiropractic, then I would expect our research to prove chiropractic kind of works. We need real chiropractors practicing real chiropractic, doing real chiropractic research.
When you know that you know that you know, you don’t need research. No one has to prove gravity to me scientifically, when I jump I come back down. But for those of you who say the research must exist for us to believe, then do it. Prove me wrong. I’m good with that, because I know that I know that I know!

Right on Dr. Osborne! You hit the nail on the head. we all know chiropractic helps back pain, neck pain, and headaches… but who cares? So does Advil and Tylenol. We want to know how chiropracTIC affects people with real sickness and disease. That’s where the real excitement will be be. The NUCCA-blood pressure study was a start, but that was only the very tip of the iceberg as far as what we have to do as a profession!

Thank you for reinforcing my thoughts Dr. Harshe. I don’t think anyone else is going to do “our” research but us! We have been doing “their” research for them instead. Appreciate principled chiropractors like you, and thank you so much for your feedback.
