No Trespassing for Chiropractors

No Trespassing for Chiropractors

My youngest daughter was recently honored at an academic awards banquet at the local school my children attend. It was sponsored by Lipscomb University, which being a businessman I thought was genious. Sure they are spending money on kids from 6th grade up thru Senior in high school, but if you want a certain market segment (smart kids), what better place to market your university than in a group of smart kids and their parents.

Great business, but not the subject for this post. Even though a great honor for my daughter whom I am very proud, I was still thinking….great, get to listen to some University President drone on during his speech tonight. Wow! Did I get a surprise. Not only a short, concise, impactful presentation, but it hit me right between the eyes. The motto, if you will, of Lipscomb University under President L. Randolph Lowery III’s leadership has become, “You can’t be who you need to be, if you remain where you are”. How true!

We as chiropractors can not be who we need to be, if we remain where we are. The problem is that most of what we need to be is on the other side of that fence. You know the one, the fence with all the warning signs posted on it. They say, don’t, you’ll be sorry, people will not accept you, that is a crazy idea, it’s not comfortable on the other side of the fence.

What I have found out from my experiences is this. Most of the good stuff is on the other side of that fence, and all those signs are lies. You can decide for yourself who posted them their, but it wasn’t your creator.

Lipscomb University has become one of the top universities and one of the fastest growing universities. Gee, I wonder why. Because they are helping students step over that fence, helping them to ignore the signs that have been posted on it.

Why not step on over the fence. As they say, “Come on in, the waters fine”. Are you who you need to be? Who you want to be? If not, you never will be if you remain where you are, so go ahead and go for it! You are worth it!

    Great post Dr. Osborne.

I think what drives a chiropractor to try and fit into the health paradigm that the majority is subscribed to, knowing full well that it is incorrect and that they have an answer. is that of fear. It is a really scary place to be when you are not in your comfort zone.

I can certainly apply this advice to my own life too, but I also know what it feels like to jump the fence and risk public rejection.

    The feeling is pretty exhilarating.

Maybe we should start a new group called Fence Jumpers!! You are correct, the most exhilarating times in my life have been right after jumping the fence. I remember doing my first Patient Orientation Class. Wow, I was on fire leaving the office that night. Good for the patients, but even better for me! Appreciate the comments, be blessed.
