Is Chiropractic Disappearing?

Is Chiropractic Disappearing?

I can’t believe I am even asking that question, but in reality it is something we have to contemplate. There has been a couple of things that I have heard lately that makes me think that chiropractic may be closer to disappearing than you think. In the United Kingdom the Bronfort Report has surfaced and there are those that have made this report the definition for chiropractic and what it can do. If you haven’t read it please go to the link and download it. After reading it you will understand what I mean. The other recent happening is in New Mexico where they are going to start having an “Advanced Chiropractic Certification” of some kind that would allow “advanced” chiropractors to prescribe and administer injections, etc. Plus the NBCE is on board to make up a new test for this “advanced certification”. Then to top it off the ACA is in support of the NBCE going forward with this.

It looks to me like the writing is on the wall. And before anyone says, yeah but that is the United Kingdom and New Mexico, that doesn’t affect me. Just remember that Doctors of Osteopathy joined with the medical profession in only California to start. Anyone seen a true practicing Osteopath lately? We need to be very careful in what we are allowing to happen in the profession. If there are those that want to prescribe and inject then great, get a medical degree and do so. I have absolutely no problem with someone making the choice to do that, I have a problem with anyone calling it chiropractic. And certainly not “advanced” chiropractic. Seems like “advanced” would mean moving forward, not backward!

We must preserve chiropractic. It can not continue to move toward allopathy. With each inch toward it, the farther we are from our premise.

If you can’t beat ‘em, join ‘em, huh? The real issue here is that this phenomenon is just a symptom. The CAUSE is the fact that many chiropractors do not know how to run their practices, let alone manage their patients, which forces them to sell out to the medical establishment when they fail. I had a great talk with a massage therapist about this, because he said he met a chiropractor who told him “Well, I don’t do much adjusting” and the therapist was just blown away, because he had worked with good, principled DCs for years. We need to draw a line in the sand and tell these people that if they want to choose a different profession, go ahead and do it and let the rest of us carry the torch. This profession is on the brink of losing its identity.
